Mine is the OWNER'S MAINTENANCE MANUAL for my 2002 CRF450R. Here is a picture (hosted by Image Shack, thank you very much) of page 163:

Well that is weird that they are saying something different , i would trust the Service Manual more than the Owners Manual , but i guess test it both ways , if one way gives the results the book says , then i would trust that one as being the correct test

    JimDirt,
I finally got around to testing my TPS per the page from your Service Manual and the results indicate a good TPS. I got about 5K ohms between the black and blue wires, and between black and yellow, resistance varied with throttle position as indicated. My Owner's Maintenance Manual page 163 must be wrong! For one, there is clearly a typo on mine where it says in bold near the bottom, "Full open - Fully open..." I'm sure it should say, as yours does, "Fully closed - Fully open..." Geez, hard enough troubleshooting intermittent electrical problems without using a jacked up wiring diagram! I am about to install a replacement coil, cap and spark plug. If that doesn't work, I'll have to break out the AED... for me! Lol

LOL yea i know , but that is why i have a Factory Service Manual , as well as a Owners Manual , i have the Service Manual in the actual paper manual as well as PDF , so i have reference to it without dragging the manual around as i have it on my Desktop PC as well as my Laptop , along with various other Honda ,Yamaha , Kawasaki,Suzuki ,KTM , Kymco , manuals

Its worth the $40-$60 that the dealer charges , as it covers everything about the bike and its the exact same manual the Honda Tech's use , if your going to work on your bike yourself , you really need it , for occasions just like this

Still no spark! I now have the entire '02 Service Manual so it's 'off to the races' (figurativley speaking) testing exciter coil, ignition pulse generator and, by process of elimination, ICM... or just replacing it all one-by-one. I already tested the entire harness for continuity and the kill switch is disconnected.

Start with the stator test first (windings) , i have a feeling this will be it , occasionally they just stop working with no warning

Did you ever solve your problem. I have an 08 Crf 450 doing something similar. If I can get it to start it will run great all day. Once it cools off it's almost impossible to restart with out flooding it. If I change the plug it sometimes helps it fire up.

Solved my no spark after days of going thru all tests. The spark plug BLUE CAP had come loose inside where it connects to the spark plug. There is a small brass rounds nut with slots to take a screw driver. Mine took two turns to tighten up. Starts 1st or 2nd kick every time.
