    New purchase upgrades...where to start

    by DooDad » Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:30 pm

Brand new to the forum and soon to be a new 450X owner. Been looking at the site and am confused as to all the mods/upgrades that are available. It would be nice if someone took it upon themself to list the sequence of mods in a cost vs performance gain format. Also, a where do I start list would probably be appropiate.

Im thinking engine/frame/radiator protection would be the first purchases. (I know a pipe has a lot more WOW factor).

What do you think? Am I the only one that is concerned about putting the cart before the horse?

    Thanks, Dan

    Welcome abord !
    Protect your X
it's been said b4 and is true if you ride woods like the bike was meant for then the plastic pcs on the bike need replacing with some nice aluminum ones .all of which can be had right here at crfs
they would be in order of MY 1st priority :
A skid pan , works connection is great but $$$, i have a flatland racing works well needs modifying to be able to change filters unless they have fixed problem
    2. Radiator gaurds , there are several to choose from ...read some posts and you will get lots of input
    3. Master cylinder gaurd ...works connection
    4. shark fin for rear disc , again there are several to choose from find one you like MSR makes a real nice setup that replaces the honda brake carrier and also has a replaceable shark fin too ! looks to be pretty good and not a lot of cash
    5. some sort of fork seal savers a few different brands to choose from
    6. some will say this should be first is to rejet the beast JD is the easy way (ouch dougs got me doing it now too)read some posts lots of good info
The list will never end once you start it's like an addiction .I need a fix and am going out to the garage now !

ZZRsDooDad...welcome to the group. mustang did a great job. i agree that protection is where i would start first. skid plate, rad guards, master cyclinder and rear caliper guard, shark fin (the MSR is actually the same as the flatland that we sell...scotts makes a version of this as well...both are rock solid...pun intended). the new flatland skid plates allow you to remove the oil filter...just ask gordon.

once this is done go for the intake and exhaust tracks for more responsiveness and power. jetting is a must after you open both up. jd is great because it's plug-n-play. if you can't go with a slip-on for the exhaust then the baja designs allows more flow and is under 96db.

don't hesitate asking questions...we are here for you...welcome again.
