If you have no spark confirm it is not a problem with the on/off switch, kill switch or clutch switch. I think later bikes had a kick stand switches.
The clutch and kick stand switches are so you can't start without pulling in the clutch lever or having stand up. Not sure if they had a neutral gear interlock, probably not but easy to start in neutral to get around that.
