Cracked center case behind kick starter gear.

Had a metal sounding rattle coming from the clutch area pulled the side cover and clutch basket out and found out the center case has a nice 3 inch crack right around the kickstarter shaft. Talking to some local honda mechanics this is a problem with the older crf150f model's. Mines a 2003. Ordered up part's to rebuild the engine. The case itself was only 73.00 bucks but might as well rebuild the complete engine, new crank, piston, timing chain, seals, and bearings. My question is. How do I prevent this happening again?

Hopefully the later available case is a better design.

I assume the crack is because of the kick-start action.

So if it has only recently broken then they last about 13 years. A lot of cases in the past have had cracks around starter levers due to lack of support.
Your thinking is good, in that you may as well do a rebuild whilst it is apart. Just check over the trans for wear whilst in there, don't want to split cases twice.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas
