    Proper Choke Position?

    by cosmokenney » Mon Nov 18, 2013 3:29 pm

I just bought a 2005 CRF 150 F for my son. It was a bear to start. So I went through all the usual: valve adjustment (intake valve was way loose); carb cleaning (while in there I just replaced the existing 42 Pilot and 115 Main with brand new ones the same size). Put the needle on the fourth notch from the top. Pulled the snorkel. And the bike came with a "Honda screen type spark arrestor" (so I didn't drill any holes).

After the valve adjustment, it started after a kick or three.

After carb clean and new jets it started after a kick or two.

Problem is, I'm not sure about the choke position. I don't have an owner's manual, but I saw one for an '06 on-line and it says full choke is all the way up (bike dies immediately in this position), and completely down is OFF?

    Really?

Can anyone verify that down is OFF for the 2005? To me it seems to run a little faster in the down position.

Yes down is off... it should run faster in that position because you are choking it in the up position.
