150F won't start/bad starter. Opinions on starter rebuild?

First time on this forum, but your posts have helped me in the past (Thanks!)

What I assume to be the starter on my 2007 CRF 150F appears to be going bad (electric start). It was struggling to turn over at first(fully charged battery) but now has been reduced to virtually no response and the "click" of death.

Has anyone tried to rebuild/fix the starter? Was it challenging? Do I need special tools to access it? Any special tips? Or does this symptom sound like something ELSE you've experienced?

    Thanks everyone!

welcome to the site. is the battery new or just charged up? you might want to verify the battery is good before breaking into the starter. it's pretty rare for this battery to fail.

It's just charged using 2 full days of trickle charging. I considered a new battery to be sure, but was told by others of experience that heard it trying to turn over that that's not it. I can look into that as a test run just to see - I can always return it.

    Thanks!

i'd check the battery just to make sure that's not it. if the battery is good you can replace the brushes/holder but that's about it without replacing the entire starter. you can get these parts on our OEM parts website at www.yeltrik.com.

It's times like these I love to be wrong. You were absolutely right, it was as simple as the battery. Thanks for saving me a headache!
