Bike wont Idle without the Choke on

by Forever II Wheels » Mon May 02, 2011 8:53 am

Hey there guys I' am new to the site. Saw some good topics but nothing that answered my issue. I just bought my wife a 2006 CRF 150f and the dang thing wont Idle unless the choke it on. I have been told the same thing clean my pilot jet. And i have done just that i took carb cleaner to it and the rest of the carb and even bought a new jet from the honda dealer. I live in good old Cal City and the elevation is 2400 feet or so. I kept stock jetting and my needle at the lower setting of the two. And my spark plug looks a little black so i think i might be running rich. IDK I' am pretty confused and frustrated so any help will do i' am pretty puzzled. Also i know i put my carb together right but the plastic hat part for the main jet don't seem to wanna stay put it keeps sliding off it seems.. would that cause the problem? Please HELP my wife wants to ride!!!!

welcome to the site! the choke restricts air which richens the air/fuel mixture. if it won't idle without the choke then your pilot jet is lean or partially clogged or your fuel screw needs to be opened up.

How do i open my Fuel Screw?? And if its lean do i bump it up to a 42?? I had a 45 in it and a 115 main with baffle and snorkel removed and the screw set at the top notch. And it still did the same thing.. you think that was maybe to rich for it??

you need to either use the d-shaped tool we offer or use an electrical butt connector, heat it up and slide it over the fuel screw and let it cool. then use it to adjust the fuel screw.

i'd recommend out power up jet kit. it has the Honda power up needle and the jets necessary to get the jetting correct.

Okay Ken i do have a question. What is the Choke position on a 2006 crf 150f is it down is full choke middle is half and up off?? or is it backwards?? If it is backwards then the bike wont start with the choke on..
