Proper jetting & Baffled by baffles???

    by CRF230dad » Mon Nov 21, 2005 8:18 am

O.K. I've read a alot of posts about uncorking the air box, removing the baffle & rejetting the carb for bringing your bike to life. What are the right jets & carb settings for a 05' CRF80, 150 & 230 that ride between 2,800 - 5,800 ft. elevation? Most of the riding is around 3,000 ft ( So. Calif. desert). I prefer to drill holes in the baffle as opposed to removing it. (Throater but not too loud) What is the magic number? How many holes & how big? Can I drill the holes for now and run it like that before I do the air box & carb? If so will I need to ajust anything? Thanks for all the info!!!

Hey everyone im am selling complete power up kits on ebay for the 230 and 150. Im including everything needed. Power up needle jet set, main jet, pilot jet and a white brothers powerfilter. Im not trying to rip anyone off and make alot of money just trying to make it easy for the new riders to get everything they need. Im starting the auctions at a very fair $39.95 with only $7.95 shipping at that Im just breaking even. Again this a complete kit including istallation instructions and instructions on removing the baffle and uncorking the airbox. I hope this will help some riders find everything they need. Just go to ebay and search for crf power up kit and it will bring you to it.

CRF230dad. I wish I could help you. I don’t know much about the 150. However with the 06 having an electric start I am considering it for my wife. After raising my 230 she does not like it.
I have done nothing to my sons CRF80 or the other 70 so I’m no help there either.
I’m just starting to read about the 150.

You could drill out the baffle without increasing the airflow on the intake but it will make little difference. Just don’t open up the airbox and change to a higher flow filter without re-jeting. This will make it gun to lean and possibly cause damage.

    230dad,
I ride about the same altitudes as you and I am running a 110 main, 42 pilot and stock needle with the clip in the 4th position in my 150. I have an aftermarket exhaust and the snorkel and screen are removed from my airbox with a TwinAir filter.
Not sure about how many holes to drill but your carb will be o.k. with that mod only, don't open up the airbox until you rejet the carb. More air means leaner air/fuel mixture.
FYI, my carb setup might not be the same for you, pick up a few different sized main jets and play with the needle clip to see what settings best suit your environment.
