CRF150F for non-competitive motocross riding?

I'm about to start taking MX lessons and the first thing I was told is I might want to consider a bigger bike when my confidence and skills build as the CRF150F cannot handle the abuse I will put on it once I am a better rider. I currently have no aspirations to race but do want to be able to ride a motocross track clearing the doubles and tabletops as well as railing the berms. I am now concerned that my bike was not a good choice even for recreational MX riding, if there is such a thing.

My question is this, have any of you had experience riding a MX track on a CRF150F? I weigh 165 so was planning on putting in heavier springs and some minor performance mods such as a thrust nozzle, air box snorkle removal and re-jetting.

I understand your problem, I have the same one. I have two acres of back yard full of trails, whoops, jumps, climbs and berms of all kinds, and even for that I had to get heavier springs (I only with 135 at 5' 9"). As far as power goes, everyone knows the bike is underpowered, and especially on the track your gunna want and need lots of punch, which sadly the 150 does not have. So unless your looking to seriously upgrade the motor and suspension, you might wanna look for a better bike.

PS. Since you weigh 165, if you get new spring you will also need a thicker oil, 15 or 20 wt would be good (stock is 10wt)

I ride mx with my 150 the suspension upgrade above is a good idea but dont waste your money on the thrust nozzle it doesnt do anything get a new pipe instead. many people like the rev box but bbr valve springs are nescary if you dont want to float your valves (valve not moving back fast enough do to high rpm and colliding w/ piston) the power upgrade is a must o' and about the pipe just a slip on will to the trick for mx I uped my rear sprocket to a 50tooth w/ a comp chain If you got the money ken has a pretty goood offer on a sidewinder 420 swapout upgrade I think he qouted me $200 or something but I dont have that kind of $$ to throw at my 150. If you still have stock bars get rid of them about every time you fall they bend or snap I picked up some msr dominators for $34 since the big boys will be flying past you throwing rocks (depending on track. mine is terrible) you need some handgaurds cycra stealth are th best they bend when you fall but still offer good protection. and I thinks thats all know. ken should be able to hook you up with almost every thing but if not:
