    Race worthy 150

    by motokid54 » Fri Sep 02, 2005 6:49 am

I was wondering how many people race theyre 150s and what class they race in. here in division 3 150s have to race 125 schoolboy or 125 amateur wich is not hardly fair I think the 150 should race with the 85s the four stroke cut off for the 85 class is 125cc and for those of you who race how competive is your 150 in your class. thanks

Im from mass and around here we race 150's with two stroke 85's. The 150's usually get killed unless you've for a bunch of aftermarket performance parts on them. A 150 needs at least a pipe, filter and revbox to keep up with a stock cr85.

In california we race our 150s with the 85's and a special 4 stroke class. Me and my 150 won both championships.

Has anyone tried using just one BBR spring with one stock? I put the two BBR springs on a CRF100 a while back and it made it too stiff for me (140 lbs) and top out BAD. I realized there were no amount of mods that I could do to a 100 to make it worthwhile so I got the 05 CRF 150. Now I'd like to improve the suspension for a little racing but don't want to have the same experience of making the front TOO stiff. I've heard that you can try one BBR one stock and that works well. Curious what experience has been for others...

Some guys just add a few washers in the bottom of the forks to increase the preload on the springs and run 15wt oil and say that is a good alternative to the BBRs... Anyone doing that?

P.S. Takes a lot to make these 150s competitive with the 85s. The CR85 has more HP, far superior suspension and weighs 60lbs less! I can't imagine a crf150 being competitive with 125 2-strokes no matter what the mods! (that why 250f's compete with 125s!)

At 140 pounds you should put both BBR springs in and use 10 wt fork oil. I weigh 130 and ride pretty agressive...it works fine for me...sometimes not stiff enough tho
