    Removing Baffle

    by Fast150F » Thu Aug 14, 2008 3:20 pm

If i remove the baffle will it blow my bike up? Our local Honda shop said it will blow it up because it will run to hot. Is this true? Will it hurt it in any way?

Didn't you know? Any kind of mod that doesn't make money for the honda dealer will blow your bike up, .

Airbox lid/snorkle removal, rejetting, and the baffle out is the proper way to do it, but I don't think there is any harm with just the baffle out. If anything, it'll make the bike not as hot, more exhaust out, not really a power-gain though.

Most bikes run hotter with free flowing exhaust unless they are jetted. Don't have a 150f - but a 230f is lean from the factory. Take out the baffle and you can smoke the motor. Best way to tell is read your plug. Needs to be a nice brown/tan color. If it is white - you are running lean and hot. Black you are running rich. I would rather run rich then lean.

Do the power up mods. There is a sticky on the subject...

Starting to use oil or smoke some yet? How does your plug look?

Like I said I don't have a 150 only two 230s. Mine were lean as heck from the factory - especially the '07. Starts are much easier, runs cooler, and has more power with the power up kit, bigger jets, no snorkel, no baffle. The 2007 seamed to be leaner than the '03 from the factory - real hard to start. Mods definitely made a big difference.

I would follow the suggestions of others on this board when it comes to jetting etc. Especially ~. Now if he said it was OK - I would run it.

    Viper,

I would tend to agree with you on this one. Opening up the breathing on a lean bike only makes it leaner.

Without rejetting, the engine temp is gonna get high, and you will eventually damage that head.

Thanks, im probably going to put it back in. Ive owned the bike for almost a year and the baffle was out for most of that time and its still running very well. Rather be safe than sorry..

I went to check my spark plug and the thing is in there good! I might take it to the honda dealer and let them handle all the dirty work

actually. no. my bike runs fine. starts up real quick and easy. no smoking. plugs perfect. but ive just been putting off rejetting it. ill probably rejett it before i ride next. but since school is just about to start. thatll be a while. ill rejett it and then sell it for my future bike. the crf250x. but for now. it runs fine with absolutley no problems at all. just my input
