OK, if no one else wants to answer, here's my thoughts.
You'd be ok with either bike. They're both fun, just get some instruction from a friend who has some experience so you know what you're doing. Then, gain some skills and gradually you'll be able to get the full potential out of either bike.
I'd look for a good used one at a reduced price, if I were you. In that way, next year you can sell it for close to what you paid and move up to a bigger bike. Or if you save money by getting a used one, then you'll have some dough for mods, like a pipe, etc.
