    Front Fork Oil Question?

    by RLPII » Wed Feb 27, 2008 10:27 am

I'm getting ready to change the oil in the front forks on the wife's 150 and the manual leads one to believe that you check the oil level "before" you put the spring back in the tube. Is that correct?
    Thanks for any info.........

I'm guessing thats correct, because the spring will displace some of the area in the fork.

Yes that is correct. Make sure you work the fork to get all the air out.

How much oil per fork and what weight oil is recommended in the manual. Also is the screw on the bottom of the fork for a cartridge of some kind or is it just a drain plug?

    Fork question

That is the oil drain. Everyone here will have a different answer. Here is my opinion after reading everyone elses here. Go with a heavy oil to help dampening. I recommend 15w, you may have to mail order it but you will be glad you did.

Thanks for the reply, I sort of figured the screw was for draining as these forks are pretty simple and probably dont have a cartridge, but what I want to know is...

What does the SERVICE MANUAL recommend for a 2006 CRF150F?

The stock oil level is 5.7” from the top of the tube without the spring in there & the fork fully compressed.
