Is there a special wrench to tighten them? How can you tell if they are tight enough? Don't want to overtighten them. Thanks! Seems like every day I learn something new on this site! I appreciate it!

Spokes have a torque just like any other bolt. Unfortunately a spoke torque wrench is expensive. There are special wrenches designed for spokes. Spokes just like bolts come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Your bike manual should have the size specified and should be the standard "square" type of spoke wrench. My 05' 450 came with a spoke wrench for the bike. The prices for a standard spoke wrench vary from $3 and up depending on quality.

Just remember, the spokes are what holds the rim true. A rim that is true will track straight and have equal amounts of pressure all the way around the rim. As the spokes loosen, the rim becomes untrue. A simple fixture can be made to check and adjust spokes using a dial gage, a magnetic adjustable position arm, and an old Honda axle. But remaining simple, just make sure they are all tight!!
