    150f vs 120kit? No brainer?

OK I keep going round and round, My son has an 03 xr100 and I have been thinking we would do the 120cc kit for $300 this would give him some more power and room to grow, But he is 13 and still growing. I figure i can get about $1500 for his bike the way it is and move up to the 150f for about $500 more. See add below, looks like a good deal to me. Any feed back would be great! Yes I know a 150r would be nice but the budget does not allow and in California it is RED stickered!

2005 CRF 150F Pro Taper bars,BBR front shock springs, BBR rear spring, ASV levers, No Toil Air filter, BBR exhaust pipe. SRC full coverage skid plate, Maxxis IT tires. Air box opened up, rejetted, fast 150. Trail riding, with just a little bit of track. Maintained great.
    $2000 OBO...

Coming from someone who owned 3 XR 100's at one time for my wife, daughter and son.

Excellent bikes and I still have the motor of one of them with the 120 kit in it. It is a DMC bike, XR motor in a 2002 CR80 Expert chassis. Only way I could get my daughter (at 5'3") a good handling four stroke bike with adjustable suspension, disc brakes, etc. back in 2002. Cost me 2 bikes to build one .... but it is sweet!

The 120 kit in an XR100 doesn't really do much for you. My nephew also had a stock XR100 with a 120 kit when he was younger and it is still an XR100 with great beginner suspension, motor, etc. I am a firm believer in keeping kids on underpowered bikes until they have skills that far outweigh the bike.

My counsel would depend on your son's skills. The 150 listed is probably a good bike if those skills are still at or below the bikes capabilities, but I question how much it gains over the 100?

Once he has clearly mastered all that bike can teach him, move up to a CRF150"R", or even better, a 2 stroke 125 :D

yes i think we got a good deal and it is a good step up until he is ready for the bigger more expensive version (currently out of budget) so he is happy! Thanks for the input.
