I just bought a used 2003 crf150f. Overall I am pleased with the bike; however, the rear brake seems inadequate. Is there anything I can do to improve the rear brake? All help will be greatly appreciate. Thanks to all.

Is it adjusted properly???
It is never gonna be a disc brake but when adjusted properly it should be adequate.

Yes, it is adjusted properly, but it still feels weak. I understand it won't be a disc, but I think it should be better than what it is. My father told me to put three cuts in each shoe with a hacksaw to make them vent and clear better. This sounds suspect to me, does it sound right to anyone else?
Thanks, and ride free!!!!!!!!

You could try an aftermarket brake shoe. Probably won't make it great, but might make it better. Your brakes are probably as old as the bike is.

try removing the rear wheel and drum and finely sand the dirt or mud off of the brake drum

There is a concave nut on the end of the rod that actuates the brake. Clockwise removes the slack.

I hardly use my back brake. Start getting used to using the front more often. Your front brake will slow you down much faster than the rear.

That's funny, it always seems to slow my bike down faster than it slows me down.

I knew I should have been more clear on that. Don't start confusing people Agent.

That happens when you go over a jump and chop the throttle on a 4 smoker.

Also happens when you lock up the front brake and go "assoverteakettle" over the bars...
Don't ask me how I know...

At least you know now not to grab too much front brake.
