    CRF

    by wade » Wed Jun 09, 2004 6:25 am

I would get the CRF...my CRF is in the shop right now so I had to ride a TTR225 this last weekend. The suspension is SO soft on the TTR that I actually had a hard time controlling in going up rocks on the trails. The CRF is much more rider friendly. I hope whichever bike you choose you have fun.

    crfhonda-rider...

let's break it down. on a small bore(125cc) four-stroke you really don't need an electric starter...it's over kill. a properly jetted crf150 is pretty easy to start. besides an electric start adds weight and complexity (battery, starter motor, electrical connections...all things that could need maintenance at some point) to a pretty small and simple bike. again, from my perspective...over kill.

For all the additional weight and complexity your LOSING 25cc which is ~17% less displacement. And we all know there's no replacement for displacement when it comes to power.

Lastly, if you got a yamaha ttr we'd be force here at CRF's Only to ask you to turn in your 'crfhonda-rider' name. Now, nobody wants that to happen...right? ;)

Good luck with your decision and let us know what you end up doing!

Hey man, great question that i would love to answer!
I own a CRF-150 and seems coincidential but my friend had a TT-R125. We lined them up just to see what would happen and who would have the bragging rights. Well the outcome was like this, he beat me off the line but i quickly (within 4 feet) caught up to him. And of course top end did the rest of the work. Now I weigh about 90 more lbs than he does so yes he easily took me off the line. But like I say my top end left him sitting.

BUT!! Its not always how fast the bike is you should examine the ergonomics of each bike. Sure the TT-R125 has an electric starter and not everyone likes trying to kickstart a 4-stroke that is been running for awhile, But you can escape electrical problems and additional weight by simply kickstarting.

Another thing is seat height. If you are a shorter rider the yamaha may be the best choice. If you are experienced and still "shorter" the Honda might suit you better.

If you like softer shocks the yamaha would be the way to go. But if you like harder shocks the Honda would be the way to go.

In some ways yamaha provides better ergonomics in some areas, but you have to consider 150-125=25. 25 extra cc. That can mean alot, it certainly did for me!!

I've seen dyno charts for both bikes as stock from the factory. The TTR125 has 8.4 peak horse power. The CRF150 has 11.8 peak horse power. You be the judge. (I bought the CRF)

    crf 150

yeh dude the crf 150 does not have a bad starter, unless you get an old one. You should get the crf 150 or something else, but i had a tt-r 125 before my crf and i like to race, do stunts, and stuff thats hard, i got a crf 150 because my tt-r 125 gave out after a year. Also if your thinking about racing a tt-r all the extra add on parts are so freaking expensive

I have a crf150 and i know for a fact that the crf150 is faster then a ttr125. A ttr125 with alot of after market parts is about as fast as a stock crf150.I race with cr80s on my crf150, my bike gets more top end but they get me on the shoot because they have a power-band,but i smoke them every where else.my freind has a ttr125 and i raced him for fun one day at the track when i was practicing, and i waxed him. So i would get the crf150 if i were you, because if you get the ttr125 your gonna hate it.

Get the 150! My Friend has a TT-R125, and my brother has a 150. We drag race, the 150 wins, we race(on our track), the 150 wins. Our big jump is 40 long, the 150 does not bottom out, the TT-R does! I'm telling you, get the 150 or you will be very disapointed! :!:

I agreee with everyone else. I am in the same place as you. I am 14 now but when i got the bike i was 13. Some kids around my neighborhood have 04 tt-r125's with a new pipe and air filter, and just the basics. But when we drag raced i beat him. This was also my first bike and his liek 5th. So him being better than me is not a factor

Get the 150. My 150 was easy to start when it was stock, but ever since I put the Powroll Headr on it, it has been harder to start, not much though.
