I just bought my son a 2006 150F and he really wants to race it. Are there any adjustments that are required to race with this bike? I was thinking about lowering it since he is only 5'6". Would this help at all?

The 150F is designed as a fun trail bike… not a motocross bike. The “F” actually stands for fun!
That’s not to say he can’t try but the lack of suspension and power will hold him back.
Take it out to a track and run a few practice laps before entering in any races.
Make sure the bike is set up for his weight to take advantage of the suspension it has.

Ok, we live in Pittsburgh and the closest tracks that I know of are Slippery Rock Dunes where I ride. Any suggestions on cheap power mods?

well. Buy BBR fork spring and rear shock...

you can change the sprockets and chain for more TOP END power...

and if it isn't enought, buy a 175cc big bore kit with cam and a D-section exhaust system

you will beat most of the 85's

Ok, thanks a lot! We went out to a local track on Sunday and he raced in the open class. He thought he did bad but he only came in 5th. He told me he wants to adjust the gear ratios to get some more power. I'll try the little mods you guys posted! Thanks again!

I took him and the bike to Switchback Raceway and he did a few practice laps there. He told me he cant do the doubles and triples on it and told me to try. So I get in 3rd gear coming through a berm, and I hit the double at about 25-30mph. I lean as far back as I can and still, it doesnt go more than 8 feet and probably 10-15 feet in the air. I tried going around the track again and hitting it harder, but I got just about the same result. Now I'm really thinking about a big bore 175cc kit.

I tried the whole 150f on track deal. you have to choices.
    1) Get him a 150r or 250r

    2) Tell him to swallow his pride have fun + ride hard

I think I already posted this but... no baffle, change gearing to fit enviroment, good maitece, fresh rubber.

trading it for a KX100 would cut his lap times in half.
150f are great foo foo bikes but get thier azz spanked on the track. take a better look at a real mx bike, notice the forks? look at the rear shock look at the spokes and rims look at the motor l/c or air cooled?

you can spend over 2000$ on mod to make it MX bike

but a crf150R or a 250R would be a good idea if your son want to race, it would cost less in mod, and he would be able to race the other 250 or 85'S

My daughter has an 06' 150f. It is a great play/trail bike. It is way to heavy to be competitive on a motocross track. If he has the racing bug you're gonna have to bite the bullet and trade/sell it and get him an 85 or 100 cc 2 stroke or go all out and get him a 150r. You're wasting your time and money throwing parts at a play bike. Go to the OEM sites and check the weights of your 150f and compare it to real motocross bike. You'll be shocked. Motocross bikes also are making more HP. You could always buy a used one, there are lots of them out there.
