Kawasaki's KZ1000 was a 1000cc inline four cylinder, four stroke street bike that was used by many law enforcment agencies back in the early to mid '80s. It was very quick by street/touring bike standards of that era but really no match for the early ninja types (FZRs and the such) in the hands of an accomplished or shall I say 'crazed' rider (many times referred to at the end of the chase as 'the deceased'). It handled real well in tight traffic at low speed and it was great for working speed enforcement from onramps from a dead stop. As fun as it was, the result of a motorcycle cop having to run 100 mph in freeway traffic to overtake a guy going 75 mph seems a little insane and in fact was probably more dangerous to all, then the original speeding vehicle. In essence two clowns going way too fast for conditions. But I digress... The KZ1000 equipped with a police radio on the rear also had a nasty wobble in it on grooved pavement at speed. Gassing it would smooth it out but when it started to wobble your first reaction was to chop the throttle. You quickly learned that this was not the thing to do as it only made it worse and usually put you on the ground. Just another one of those times where "When 'stuff' starts to happen; GAS IT!", paid off.
I would not have called the KZ1000, in and of itself, a scary fast m/c but riding one, as I mentioned, in the dirt with street tires, as apart of a training course was, at times, a very spiritual experience.
