    Riding on a track?

    by kclugston02 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 11:26 am

I know the 230 is not an MX bike but i was wondering if anyone has taken their 230 on a track? If so, how did it go? The reason I ask is because a lot of my buddies have been wanting me to go but i dunno if my bike could handle a track. I'm not going to go all out on the track, just cruise around.

I run mine on my private track all the time. I'm 175# and jump approx. 5-6 feet high and 30' long. The rear shock is just fine. The front forks hit very hard if I over jump the landing even a little bit. But I believe heavier springs would prevent that. To me it is like riding a big pit bike.

I've taken mine to the track and I'm a pretty new rider. I was pretty concerned just like you. You will definitely see that the forks are not up to par for large jumps, but it will do just fine. I had a blast and even though I was just on my little 230 and everyone else was on 450Rs and 250 two strokes I still did fine at my own pace. You will have a blast with it. I took it on some jumps that were too much for the front forks and I'm still alive...just a little rough.

The track is the only place I have to ride mine down here in Florida. And Mine does pretty good as long as you land in the transitions. Landing Flat is a rough one but it puts along pretty good with all the 450's and 250's out there and that was stock. I'm puting in the Powe rup kit tomorrow night. and going out Sat. I'll keep you updated. Next Mod is a works shock. there are pics of me jumping my 230 on my profile and garage.[/img]

im 60kg and have taken my 04 230 on the track the forks bottomed out constantly, and it was a rough ride. but i was also going flat out the whole way around so that doesnt tend to help.

To do any track riding as in jumping you will need a rear Works shock about $550 and a set of inverted front forks $??? depending what you get. you will be fine to do the doubles and land anywhere. After a while then you will pray that your frame stays together. Whithout the proper mods you will feel what do they mean by metal to metal.

my son was able to keep up with some end beginners to intermideates at the hangtown track. He can clear doubles with it. It was down on power, but he made up for it in the turns.

We had the bike revalved and resprung. It would not be ideal for a contender MX bike, but it was fun...

Yeah I was getting it pretty good. Never cleared that double. Always landed a little short. But I think I finally figured out how to power out of that corner. I'm still learning. I'm getting a little better everytime I go. The table in the back I was clearing no problem. Just got to get the speed out of that corner. They just changed up the track because a little ol lady is complaining about noise. Even though the track is in a zoned industial area. They are also tring to zone the back side for residential. The owner is looking into getting a lawyer. Next time I go out I'm gonna see about getting a petion started to save the place. It's a fun little track. Starting this Thursday all quads over 100CC have to run stock pipes.
