    Globe/Bulb info

    by Samanjo » Wed May 13, 2020 10:41 am

My 2010 CRF230F has a headlight cluster but when I bought it, there was no globe/bulb in the socket
From what I read, it should be a normal halogen bulb/globe
Can someone please tell me what the watts of the globe should be?
I just need some sort of light beam when I ride to warn oncoming vehicles of my presence (I only ever ride during the day)
Any recommendation of the correct globe/bulb would be appreciated

I did look on CMSNL spare parts online but I could not find the parts reference number on the diagram even though the globe/bulb is numbered as no 7

Since it does not come with a headlight , then it is a aftermarket housing ....... I would assume it would take a standard 35 watt 12v dual filament bulb .... if it has 3 slots in the opening , that is most likely the bulb you would use ...... 8-[

    Hi JimDirt
All the CRF230F bikes being sold here in South Africa came standard with a headlight
I read somewhere that the headlight is similar to that which was fitted to the XR200/XR400 bikes
I measured the diameter of the socket where the base of the bulb fits into
I then looked around on the internet and discovered halogen and LED size bulbs that seem to have the same base diameter.
The reference of these bulbs are....P15D
As soon as lockdown is lifted I will visit an electronic/electrical shop to see whether this bulb will fit

Here in the USA most retainers selling auto parts have reference logs for fitment maybe your parts suppliers also have ref. logs?
If you have a the owners manual it should also state the bulb required.

No problem .... I keep forgetting non U.S. models are sometimes completely different than what they sell here ....... Actually some of the non U.S. models look to be better suited to what people over here would like , it is strange that they don't make them universal for everyone ....... but I think some of those models would go over well here ......

Anyway , as Neil mentioned , you should be able to source the bulb as it "should" be a common item there ...... and as he also mentioned , the Owners Manual "should" have that info , if you do not have one , you might contact the local dealer to see about getting one ...

I bought the bike from a farmer who could not find the owner's manual
I managed to source a service manual from someone but no specs of the globe is mentioned
However, I was contacted on another forum yesterday by an owner whom gave me the specs of the standard halogen globe as well as the LED globe that is a simple plug and play \:D/
So it seems I will be sorted as soon as lockdown is lifted
