Clutch not engaging

I went to ride my crf230f as it had been a about a month since I ran it. I turned it on, pulled in the clutch and put it in first. The bike promptly stalled. Turns out the clutch isn't working, which is strange because the cable pulls and the mechanism works. I haven't pulled it apart to check the inside. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

If the bike has some time on it , then it is possible that the clutch basket is grooved and the clutch plates are sticking/hanging on it ...... It could also be that just from not being used and if the oil was low or extremely dirty , that it is causing the clutch plates to stick together ...... In either case , I would suspect that the main issue is the clutch plates are sticking together .... why could be various reasons from being dirty or low oil , to the actuator worn or broken , to the basket or the plates themselves ... and looking at it , is about the only way you will know exactly what is the cause , as there are too many variables to give a definitive reply , especially with little amount of background info you gave...... :-k

Hi Siblic,
What year is your bike?
That would help determine if the basket is worn.

Check your oil next for level and how clean it is as Jim said can make a difference.
With the engine off and clutch lever in have you tried pushing it as this can help unstick the plates, try it in say 4th gear.
