    2009 Manual for 2015

    by FilthyPlumber » Sat May 11, 2019 8:45 am

    Hey all,

Just noticed the owners manual I was given when I bought by 2015 CRF230F is for a 2009. From what I’ve been reading, just about everything is the same but haven’t been able to make a definitive decision. Will the 2009 manual suffice for my 2015 or have things like oil requirements and part numbers changed?

Ray would be the CRF230 expert around here , hopefully he will chime in with a answer , the only Manuals I have for them is for the 02 and 07 , both Owners Manuals , so they would not give me enough info to give a definitive answer of what has changed over the years ...

    Hi FilthyPlumber,
Not much changed over the years except the carb needle with less clip positions.
They're a solid bike to start with and have proven old school technology.

See that your jetting has been changed which needle are you using?
As far as lubing goes use a good quality oil and change when appropriate.
Use a waterproof grease on head bearings, swingarm and linkage. They are often undergreased from the factory and not waterproof.

Part numbers change often with bikes, it still maybe the same part but from a different supplier or when superceded or small change is made. Check the Yeltrik site for part numbers.

    Mains 132
    Idle 45

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

Using the CRFsonly power up needle in the 4th position.

Thanks for the info! I'm on the hunt for a service manual as well so between those two things I'll be covered. I have heavy duty waterproof grease for my boat so I think that'll work for the bike as well. 👍

The service manuals like the owners manuals only get updated if they change something. I wouldn't be surprised if the last change was 2009. Really depends if they rolled the 230L into the same manual as they are different creatures being more road orientated.

Have fun - that's what these bikes do best.
