    Early XR250R shock for 230F?

I've seen mention of the XR600R shock as an upgrade for the CRF230F, but what about the late 80's, early 90's XR250R shock? According to the Works product sheet, the 86-94 XR250R, and 03-ON CRF230F both use shocks with OAL of 15.13". Same length as the 85-87 XR600R. Seems the 250 shock would be a better fit for the size and weight of the 230. Would like to upgrade my 230 shock this winter, but I have very limited funds.

I have done several XR600 shock conversions and the work real well. The XR250 shock is less expensive on eBay. You will spend about $150.00 or so in parts and labor to have the 250 shock rebuilt and a new longer hydraulic hose made. There may be interference issues with the 230 airbox as the hose on the 250 shock appears to exit the back of the shock body and not the side like the 600. There may be cheaper alternatives such as rebuilding revalving the stock 230 shock. Do a Google search on rebuilding revalving the 230 shock.
