How to adjust sag on crf230f

    by jwmcf1 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 6:33 pm

Hi, I just purchased a crf230f and I would like to adjust the rear sag. I am new to dirt bikes so this is my first time doing so for any bike.

I have researched some and understand that I need to loosen the top nut and then adjust the compression. However, I cant seem to find info as to what is recommended to be disasembled to get to the adjusting nuts prior to adjustment.

I can see the adjusting nuts from the battery side of the bike. do I need to remove the air/battery box prior to adjustment or can i use a punch/drift to adjust from the battery side? Also, how hard is it to compress the spring? Can this be done by hand or will I need a spanner wrench of some sort?

    Any help is appreciated.

Wasted more time asking the question than it took to adjust.

    For anyone else:

From battery side, use a punch or a flat head screw driver with a 3-5 pound hammer to loosen the top jam nut. Once the top is loose, just reach in and turn the spring the required direction to adjust. Once in position, tighten the top jam nut back down and give it a few wacks to lock it up.

Did mine without removing anything on the bike. You can remove the back mud guard (2 screws) if you want better access to twist the spring.
