    2003 crf230f low compression

    by PondaRed » Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:02 pm

I just got a used 2003 crf230f - nice shape, but compression is low. 90psi dry, 130psi with oil added.

    What should comrpession normally be?

So its time for rings. What else should I do while I am in there?

I really should *not* be spending money on this, so it would be better if I did it on the cheap. Although I like to spend money

Service manual says compression should be 188psi when warm. So I ran it again warm. 100psi, then 140psi with oil.

I pulled the engine and tore it down (quick to do!). The motor looks great inside. I have a hard time believing there was a problem. I can see the hone marks on the cyl walls. It looks really good. Although I have yet to measure everything.

Any suggestion on how I can "prove" that the rings failed or the head gasket failed?
