Bad fuel petcock??

I've been having non stop problems with my bike leaking gas from the overflow tube. Carb has been cleaned several times. New float valve needle, float is adjusted to specs, and it still wants to leak. Usually is ok at start up then after you start riding it starts to leak. But before it leaks it floods the bike and dies. My cousin is working on it. He took the petcock off the gas tank and said there is no fuel pick up tube on it! Its just missing! Would this be causing all my problems? THe carb getting too much gas and the needle and float cant keep up with the pressure?

No. A missing pickup will not cause that problem. The issue is with your carb.
With your carb on the bike turn the petcock valve to “off”. Drop the float chamber so you can get to the float. Turn the gas on and gently operate the float manually, look for the float to move freely. If you can stop the gas flow with the float then the float valve & seat are working, ( If not then pull the carb and look for debris on the float valve seat). I would then look at the float, if it has a hole it will have gas in it. If not then you probably need to adjust it. You do this by bending the tab just under the float valve. Up will cause the float valve to engage sooner.

The carb has been throughly cleaned several times. Actually the missing fuel pick up tube was causing the problem. With no screen on the petcock it was allowing junk to get into carb. Previous owner broke off the pick up tube it appeared causing me all sorts of problems.
