Hour Meter install location on 230F

    by AdamF » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:10 pm

Hey everyone. I just picked up a Works Connection tach/hour meter for my 2007 CRF230F. This bike doesn't work with the option bracket that the manufacturer makes because the frame design is a bit different than other bikes like the 250R.

I've found some places on the frame where I can use the adhesive tape to stick it but I'd rather be able to see it while riding for the RPMs. Can can rig it in a few different places with zip ties but thought I'd see if anyone had installed one on a 230F and had some good ideas.

I saw a few posts about cutting a rectangle in the pad on the handlebars but I don't think I want to do that.

    Thanks!

Hey Adam, I have installed the same meter on my bike and it works great. I will post some pics of the location I used.

Adam, Basically I used the Dubach Racing Hour Meter Bracket ( http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... ts_id/2210 ) and modified just a little bit. Bisically drilled 2 new holes in it. Then mounted it under the steering stem nut. If you look at my pictures in my garage you will see the location.

Rancher, thanks for the response. I like the mount you modified. I ended up just using some zip ties near the right grip.

I was going to start another thread on the following topic but since you have the same meter and bike I thought I'd ask you.

The max RPM that mine seems to read is around 8400. The meter slowly climbs as I increase throttle but right when it hits the 8400 range it quickly jumps back down. I thought that perhaps the rev limiter was kicking in but just by listening to the engine it sounds like it is revving past 8400 yet the meter doesn't measure it. It's strange, it's not like the meter just sits on 8400 it does a drastic drop back to the 5000 range and bounces around.

Hmmm.. Not sure Adam. I have never had a problem with mine doing that. You might want to double check your wiring on your spark plug wire just to be on the safe side. Thats about all the advice I can give you Adam. Someone eles may have a better solution.
