Hey guys, I'm new here so try to take it easy on me, also sorry if this has been covered in length. I just completely rebuilt my 2005 CRF230F. I got it basically blown up and never really had any time with it. My question is I'm about to get ready for my first start up since the overhaul. I was told that I need to run 100 octane in it. Is this true and if it is what is everyones way of mixing 100 octane? Some places near me sell race fuel, however I don't believe they sell 100 octane. Only 93 octane and 110 or so.....
any feedback would be appreciated.

No, it is not true. Do not run 100 octane in your bike.
I would tell you to run at least 89-91 but the truth is that machine should basically run anything you could buy at the pump. It has no special requirements.
General rule it to run the premium pump gas.

Some can also debate the higher octane 95-96 is more refined and better quality fuel. I cant prove that.. just something I heard
I always run high octane at the pump unless the manufacture states otherwise.

Using fresh fuel is just as important, as is draining the fuel bowl after washing the bike at the end of a ride day.

98 is clean mostly go with that as the lesser fuels can have contaminants

Absolutely, but if the subject machine is a stock 230, it isn't demanding (thermo-mechanically...yeah I made that word up

) anything special. My XR80 runs fine on whatever old lawnmower gas I put it in...

Remembering your Aussie octane ratings are calculated differently than us here in the states. not sure what 98 what be equivalently...
What Aussie said is correct. To the OP: Worry about fresh fuel, not the octane.

I have been running 90 octane Non-Ethanol gasoline with 2 oz. of Maxima octane boost added to every gallon for my 2015 Honda CRF-230F. Is anybody else running Non-Ethanol gasoline or using octane boost? What are the opinions on running race gas and what octane/brand. I can get 110 race gas where I live, it is expensive, I have used it before on some of my 2-Stroke motocross bikes. I have used straight race gas and also have used race gas mixed 50/50 with the 90 octane Non-Ethanol gasoline for my 2-Strokers. I found it was cheaper to just use Maxima Octane Boost for trail riding and race gas for the motocross tracks. The Honda CRF-230F is a very fun and reliable motorcycle for what it is intended for and this forum has some great information and members.

I think the non-ethanol part to be more important than boosting it above 90 MON octane rating if your engine is at stock compression. Ethanol fuels are ok and are generally a higher octane but we would need to clean out the fuel system after use. It attracts moisture which does horrible thing inside carbys and fuel strainers. I have used higher octane fuel in the past but for more a back up fuel supply for others I rode with.
That said even quality pump fuel leaves deposits which is why we all should drain carbys and tanks if we leave it a month or more.
