    tire recommendation for CRF230F

    by Nozz » Tue Dec 21, 2010 8:13 am

I have a 2006 CRF230F that's in desperate need for new tires. I need a cheap but solid off-road tire set.

Manual states the front is 80/100-21 and the rear 100/100-18. Are those the only options?

    Input would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey, Nozz
Welcome to the site, those are the tire
sizes my sons bike has ran, you probably could
    run a 110/100-18 on the rear or a 110/90-18
knobby. It all depends on the terrain you ride on.

Right now my sons bike is running a 4.50 x 18
trials tire for rocky sandy Ozark style trails.
Though the trails tire is not good in muddy
    conditions.

What tire would you recommend for sandy loam, and just standard north Texas clay soil?

Thanks for the feedback... keep it coming.

    KNOBBY!
If you want to keep the stock ride height
you can go the stocker 100/100-18, or for wider
    rear 110/90-18.

When you go with the 110/100-18 or the trials
4.50X 18 the tire is taller, bringing the wheel base closer with little clearance at the front of the swingarm.

The conditions you speak of, I would run the
110/90-18 knobby. Somewhat of a softer compound
like the Dunlop D752, or Volcanduro VE-33.
PM me and I can tell you the best prices i have found.

In UK we find Mitas CO2 best rear tyre ,it will use a 120 x18 ,it looks great and digs deep but gets very near the swingarm!!
