I've been reading this site for days now! went to 2 dealers and got 2 answers???

my 03 230 with 600 miles and with baffle and snorkel removed and 102 main is running lean white tipped plug with half the threads burned black!! lots of decel popping! I live at 8500 ft Colorado and will very occasionally ride at 5000ft (willing to change main if needed)

1st dealer sent me off with a 90 main jet and the wrong one(round not hex)
2nd dealer sent me home with the correct type of jet in a 105/8 ?
installed it and still runs lean and barely started and ran horrible!

what do I need to do to get this bike performing?

also front end seems really soft was thinking about adding fork oil as I have read here helps? but how? and how much? I am new to motorcycles....I'm 6' 165lbs. and want to learn small jumps! any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

45 pilot with 110 main - See my post here: http://crfsonly.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 6dd9ae4f01

Add spacers (3/4" to 1" in length) to achieve 2 3/8" sag up front and make sure you have 3" in the back. Add 1/2 ounce oil to each fork leg for starters.

OK still having troubles!!!!
I put the power up needle in with clip one up from bottom
increased pilot jet by one size and
a 130 main and still running hot and lean

cant figure this out... one mechanic who has jetted these bikes for 6,000ft (I live at 8500 an ride mostly between 9000 and 12000)
said power up needle factory pilot and nothing greater than 116 main.... I'm way over this and still lean and with the 130 main am not getting very good gas mileage??
maybe 1300 mile now bought it with 600

What else could be the problem? no obvious air leaks that I can find?

Did you check the float level? A low float level will cause a lean condition.

Also - Forget about the spacers in the forks. Use one BBR spring and one stock spring. This is what I did and it is much better than using spacers. The front end is now much more compliant on small stuff and much better on big hits.

I would put your baffil back into the exaust and that will help the engin run less lean

sorry to jump into yall's discussion, but 2 things. One, for 8,500 feet, you're kiehn should have a 95 main, and 42 pilot, or one size either way. If you are that lean, try the needle. Also check the float. I ride near crested butte north once a year for a week or so. start at 8,500 feet and got to almost 13000. Starts to overheat much past 11000. mostly i ride TEXAS, and the stock set-up with a stock bike should be good to 5000 feet. Also, using one BBR heavy duty spring(which are awesome)and one stock could get very dangerous. It makes the suspension uneven, and will NOT work correctly. Fork oil is 10, 12 or 15 weight. Trans fluid is roughly 10 weight(and much cheaper). Add extra fluid for a stiffer ride, and take some out to soften. Or change the springs. It really depends on you're size and weight. Hope this helps some
