rear shock change out

Regarding the rear shock .......has anyone any thoughts on replacing it with a similar item from say cr125/cr250/xr250 or any other that will physically fit??? there surely must be a donor bike that can be used??is it just a matter of top and bottom fixings fitting and mount a remote behind rear??im sure all of you who have replaced the front end have thought this ,but why has no-one done it?
