max paddles on a 08 230f -CRF's Only Forums

I ahve just been given a paddle tire. I ahve intentions on going to the sand for the first(and maybe last time). i have heard i can only run 6 paddles but the tire i have been given is 8. my question is simple(i Hope) can i run this tire as is or should i trim off 2 of the cups? it is a 110 100 by 18 clearance should be easy with maybe a removal of the deflector. i wouls like to mount this soon as i am coing to the sand next weekend so any help would be appreciated. or should i stick with my dirt tire for the first trip?

I would try running the 8. You could always bring the knobby and switch over if you don't like the paddle...

I was thinking that myself. I will have to clearance the tire a little as my chain has not strectched enough yet to let it turn. I may have to shave a little off each cup. Any ideas on how to do this without effecting the performance?

You must remove the mudflap when running a paddle. If not, it will remove it for you.

Have you tried adding length to your chain? May not be feasible depending on where your adjustment is now. Add one link and another master and see if that'll work. I wouldn't shave the paddle.

the chain is all one piece. no master link. if my chain was longer i would not have a problem as i have plenty of adjustment left. can i add links?how would i do this without a master link? Mud flap is already removed and i need only another 1/8 inch or less

1/8" huh? Extending the chain for an 1/8" seems out of bounds. You want some clearance also. On second thought, I'd trim the paddle. Someone gave it to you right? It was free...

yep free. and i am still not sure if i will enjoy the sand so it may be taken off after and never used again.so what would be good to trim it with? razor knife or?

I would think a razor knife could do it. Be careful!!

I imagine a hot blade of some sort would work really well. An electric tire shaver?

I heard that.... i only have 9 working fingers now i think losing another would really suck!!

why is it that the more paddles you run the more power you need but if you run too few it also requires more power.

The 230 will suck without a paddle.
Just buy A 6 PADDLE for $45

I did a small burnout that wore the scoops down. that worked really good

well i took it out yesteraday and was very surprised on how well it did. i ran with my knobby as getting enough clearance was near impossible. i only found one hill it could not climb. i think if the sand was dryer it would have been differant. I now under stand why people want horsepower in the sand. i may go out again but i feel i enjoy the trails more.
