    Torque rant

by carp killer » Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:56 am

So I do my first valve adjustment, every thing is cool. I'm putting back on the engine hanger plates and torquing down the bolts. First two, no problem, 34 ft lbs. Last one goes to thirty and stays. So like a good man I give it more, still stays at thirty. Give it another twist and the tension drops off :x . Stripped! Crappy Honda bolts. I guess it's off to the hardware store to find some metric grade eights. But I bet a cup of coffee it will end up being SAE. Oh, and there is nothing wrong with the torque wrench. Just venting and wondering if a person should always have spare fasteners every time they work on a Honda?

    which one was it?

i have trouble with my single engine bolt, the frame ones go on fine.

im removing that plate about every 2 weeks, still on original fasteners.

could be a one time occurance?

Wow, mine was the single engine bolt too. The frames torqued up fine. In rereading my post it was the nut that stripped. I replaced it with a Toyota nut I had sitting around, torqued up normal but it doesn't have the flange, just a lock washer. This is just temporary so I can ride today. But I'm going to replace all three with grade eights or fives.

yeah, one of threads on those bolts is all jacked up on mine as well, but they still tighten just fine.

let me know what size/thread pitch you end up getting so i can go pick up some spares =]
