230F 'Pops' and dies at idle. FIXED Thanks!!

    Hello-

I did a search, but did not find this problem listed:

2007 230f, total of .8 hours, (brand new) and it has a 'pop' or a 'half-backfire' at idle.

I did the power up kit, it has the intake and exhaust opened up, 132 and new seat and needle on the 4th position, air screw at 2 turns out.

It starts and idles great at full choke. No missing or hiccups. When you push the choke lever down to the mid or half-choke is when it starts popping intermittently.

It will idle for a few seconds and pop, almost killing it, then idle smoothly for again a few seconds and pop, it will do this until it kills itself. It will do it on half and no choke, but not on full choke. It almost sounds as if it is trying to backfire but can't quite make it.

I have cleaned the carb twice, noting no problems. Pulled the jets out and cleaned and reinstalled with no difference. I have played with the idle screw, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the popping.

Do I need to go up to the 48 pilot, or is there something else I need to look at?

This is driving me crazy, and my wife would actually like to ride it instead of looking at it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes. 48 pilot is a must have on the 230F.

I installed the 48 pilot ($4.95) and the bike is a totally different beast.

Fired right up, idled perfect, and the trip around the back yard shows it to have quite a bit more low end snap.

Gone is the hesitation, and the front end comes right up with just a twist of the throttle. The wife is going to love it!

    Thanks again!
