LOOKING FOR THE EASIEST WAY TO CHANGE MY FORK OIL

by FULL CLIP » Tue Feb 17, 2009 8:32 pm

2007 CRF230F STOCK. Hi I'm 54 years old & new to dirt bike riding. I wish I had begun 25 years ago. Notwithstanding, I want to change the oil in my front frorks. I was hoping that there was an easy way to drain and replace the fork oil. Hopefully, without removing the forks. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading this.

Honestly, the easiest way is taking the forks off the bike. The forks need to be upside down for a proper drain. I think the 230 forks have a bolt at the bottom that would drain the liquid, but it wouldn't be as clean of a drain.

Basically, you have to unscrew the top cap (loosen it while the forks are still tight in the triple clamp,) remove spring, turn fork upsidedown, pump it a few times and let stand upside for some time (good practice is over night) to let all the oil find its way out.
