    by 1SICPHAKAR » Sat Jan 17, 2009 5:40 pm

JUST PICKED UP A 2002 CR125 FRONT FORKS WITH TREES AND STEM. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS SWAP? JUST WONDERING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AS FAR AS OTHER PARTS THAT MAY BE NEEDED.

Did the swap with CR250 front forks LOVE IT! There are a couple of ways to do it.
    1. Use the 230 stem and have bushings machined for the lower and upper triple clamps. The 230 stem is welded in the lower triple clamp so you have to have the weld machined or carefully grind it off yourself. you are then able to use the OEM 230 bearings. You will however have to use washers for spacers under the upper triple clamp.
    2. Use a set of '89 or later KX 80/85/100 triple clamps. Press out the stem and machine bushings for the upper and lower CR triple clamps. The KX stem bearings are the same outside diameter as the 230 bearings so they can be used without modificaion. The KX stem is longer stem so it is actually more suited for the application.
You can sell your 230 front end to defray the cost of the KX triple clamps. I actually bought 2 sets off of ebay for the R&D on this project after having done the conversion using the 230 stem. I am in the process of building a set of 250 triple clamps with the KX stem to replace the original. I paid less than $20.00 a piece for the KX triple clamps.

Careful measuring is important; don't rush. My Dad always said "measure twice: cut once." If you don't you can cut it as many times as you want and it may still be too short.

Emig Racing is a company known for their USD conversion parts for XR250/400/600/650's.

They're currently working on a conversion stem to let CRF230 owners use the CR front forks and clamps. You simply press out the stock CR steering stem and insert the conversion stem. The CRF230 bearings and top nut fit right on.

Call Gary Emig at 816-847-1100 and let him know you're interested, and tell him Tom send you!

Good News! Gary Emig will be offering the USD conversion stems as a stocked part. They should begin shipping in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be receiving the first one inside of 2 weeks, so I'll let you all know how the installation goes.

good news just fyi,,,gary has these in stock.after finding this thread,i ordered one for my cr250 fork swap,200.00 for the new forks on ebay,180.00 for the conversion stem, new cr250 wheel on ebay,150.00.sold the stock crf230 forks on ebay for 200.00,have the front tire and rim for sale on ebay now.the stem from emig worked like a charm, pressed right in the new cr250 triple clamp.i am waiting on new bearings, and then it will be a breeze to re-assemble.i would reccomend this stem for those with no machining background, and limited mechanical knowlege when bikes are concerned.
