After power-up, will not rev to full throttle

    by thomasirons » Wed May 07, 2008 10:09 am

I brought my bike in and had a local shop do the power up as I figured they would do it correct with experience in re-jetting. Brought in the turn-by-turn instructions printed out and they said it worked great. At the shop I test drove it and was not too impressed with how much power was gained but there was definitely a difference. After ridign it for a few minutes I attempted to hit full throttle and the bike bogs out like it's hitting the REV LIMITER maximum. Even when you park the bike and rev it, it definitely sounds like the REV BOX maxing out because winds up and then drops down a few hundred to 1K RPMS and them lets the bike REV up again. they said I need a new REV BOX but I have already installed the REV BOX from the CRFsOnly website last year before I did the power up a week ago. I've searched and can't find too many similar issues so I'm putting out the feelers to see if anyone has any recommendations for me.

Has anyone had similar issues or have a clue what I can do to fix it or is that just the way it is?

Winds up fine, hits a high RPM kills the engine and then will wind right back up from about 3/4 throttle back up to 90%. The bike sounds like it runs much smooother since the power-up but i can't hit full throttle. It never did this before I brought it in...it just went to full throttle and full was full...not "skipping" of any sort or loosing RPMs while cracked.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I live in MN at an elevation of ~900ft

    Power up entailed:
    - taking out the exhaust baffle removing the snorkle of the airbox.
    - installing a Twin Air air filter
    - Jetting info:
    Main: 132 - Part # 99113-GHB-1320
    Pilot: stock is 42
Needle: Honda Power-up kit part #16012-KPS-921 (clip in middle position)
Pilot screw: Stock (5/8th turn out)
    Standard Float level

Going on a big ride in a couple of weeks, please help. Thank you!

I didn't install a fuel screw but maybe I will order one up to see if that fixes the issue. I just took it for a drive and it seems to be doing a little better but I have now I have another question.

I just pulled the spark plug and it's pretty white. Not really white but it has a slight tint of brown. I does not look like the nice AMBER-brown color. Should I be concerned?

    Thank you!
