15T c/s and the stock chain

    by tomvcrc » Sat Apr 12, 2008 5:57 am

I just picked up an 07 230F leftover from my dealer and literally drove it off the trailer into my garage and tore it down. I've installed the power-up kit and uncorked the exhaust. Before I start wearing into the chain and sprockets, my question is this: Can I swap out the 13T for a 15T and still use the stock chain? Is there enough adjustment in the stocker to account for the additional 2 teeth? I'd love to hear from anyone who's done this.

Ive done this ,but......it was after 2000 miles on my stock chain and a 14 tooth front, so my chain will have stretched giving me the length to take the 15 tooth, its a brilliant mod giving the gearbox a whole new ratio, just try it and see

I am also in that same boat. I have a 2006 and just bought the 15T sprocket.. I was under the impression the stock chain had enough room to add it. Someone told me I just had to move my rear tire forward I believe. Do I really need a new chain>?

I haven't had a chance to respond yet, but I did install my 15t sprocket. I used the original chain. I had to slap the bike around and call it names for a few minutes, but it worked out. I had to grind down the chain guard and cut out a section of the sprocket protective shroud. I am not sure what that is called. It was interesting getting the chain back on, I just walked it up the rear sprocket and pushed hard. Seems really good so far. My friend notice that the bike bogs if you stab the throttle really fast. I never noticed because I rarely spin the throttle that fast. I am going to move down from the 48 to the 45 pilot jet and see.
