    Chain Too Loose?

    by Bulls » Sat Apr 05, 2008 2:35 pm

Hey I just got an 08 CRF230F and the chain is loose and touches the plastic piece underneath. However when I sit down it tightens up, but when standing and riding it loosens back up. Is this too loose or what?

I've got a 2005 and 2006 and, with the bike on the side stand, the chain should have about 1" slack (movement up and down) measured on the lower chain at a point about midway between the two sprockets. If you have an owner's manual it should have some diagrams and on mine, there is a label on the fork on the chain side too.
    Hope this helps........

It depends on how much you weigh. Yes, it is supposed to tighten when you sit on it, but im not sure that it should be getting loose when your riding.

Try to Tighten your chain, get to top speed on about 3rd or 4th gear and check out your chain to see how its doing. then when you stop, notice if there is any change in the chain. beacuse when your going slow on your bike, you chain is not getting pulled as hard. when you get to higher speed it usually get pulled tighter.

    Hope it helps

    Refer to your owner's manual.
