    Fuel Mixture Screw?

    by RLPII » Mon Mar 31, 2008 11:39 am

I was looking at the Carb on the CRF 230 F (2006) and it looks like the there is no way to adjust the fuel mixture screw. In the hole where I think it is, it is just a flat brass "plug" looking piece, with one flat side. Does that make sense?

My 2005 CRF 230 F at least has a screw there?

Am I looking at the right place on the 2006?

I want to replace both with the CRF's Only Fuel Screw, but need to know how to extract the "plug" in the 2006. Any suggestions?

    Thanks In Advance,
    Bob

Yes you are. It is brass & has a “D” shaped head.

I carefully put a small hole in mine and backed it out with a standard screwdriver.
However the best suggestion I heard was to use a small rubber hose.
If it is loose enough you may be able to coax it out with a small standard screwdriver.

I use a small wire connector to adjust the 450's fuel screw.

Mind you don’t loose or damage the spring, washer, and o-ring. They come out in that order.
If the o-ring does not come out with the needle then use a small probe like a piece of copper wire to retrieve it.

The directions that come with the CRF’S Only screw are clear and easy to fallow.

OK, the local mechanic loaned me a tool to extract the "D" shaped fuel screw on the 2006 and I have ordered the CRF's Only fuel screws and they should be here on Friday :D

What am I looking for in setting the air/fuel mixture with the screw? Smooth idle, flat spots in acceleration or ??

I've done it a hundred times on a 4 barrel on a Jeep, but is it the same process on the Honda?

    Thanks,
    Bob
