    Lowering Linkage

    by Base733 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 6:58 am

Has anyone installed the lowering linkage? The 230 is a little tall for my wife and I thought this might be a solution but am interested in hearing from folks who may have installed or used it.

    Product here: http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... cts_id/740

    Thanks for the comments.

I've installed that link on my bike. Just be sure to also lower the front fork tubes about an inch in the triple clamps if you do this to keep the suspension geometry about the same as stock. I like the new lowered height that the changes have brought and the bike feels very comfortable for me now.

    How tall is your wife?

She's about 5'2 and is tippy toe on the 230 stock so the link should be a great mod for her. I ordered the link this weekend and will make sure to lower the fork too. Thanks!

Some people say the lowering link screws up the steering geometry and handling characteristics of the bike, but I've not noticed anything different, yet. Just be sure you tell her to take it easy after installing the link. Also, make sure the rear sag is set to whatever the instructions say from Kouba. I think it was 3", but doublecheck.

I am 5'6" with a 29 inseam and riding here is tight and technical. I love the lowered stance so I can actually put my foot down when needed.

Good luck... let us know how it turns out.

    aloha!

    Kouba, We did it!

    by Richd1963 » Fri Apr 18, 2008 9:42 am

We did the Kouba lowering link and lowered the front forks (raised them in the triple clamps 1"). It proved to work well for my girlfriend. Now she can rest both feet on the ground and she feels more comfortable and has more confidence. She keeps hounding me to fix her kickstand since lowering the bike it rests a little different on the kickstand which appears to be too long now. I plan to remove it from the bike, take it to work and shorten it by removing about 1" from the end including the foot. I will actually remove it and while holding the bike measure to see how much actually needs removed, then have it shortened and have a new foot welded onto the leg. Saving the old cut off piece in case we ever raise the bike back up to stock height and there fore reinstall it to factory size. Good luck and hope she enjoys the bike. Mine does!

I'm going to do the same thing for my wife. Stock 230's seem to lean on the kick stand at pretty steep angle. Shortening really necessary? Anyone know if a 150f kick stand would bolt up? Is it shorter? Only about $32....
