Removing the baffle and nothing else. Please help?

    by mdewho » Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:41 am

I am new to forum and have been reading a lot on the cool stuff everyone has been doing to there bikes. I just bought 07 230f and was wondering if I just remove the exhaust baffle do I need to re-jet the bike or can I leave this until I ready to do the rest of the power up. Please help I don't want to mess my bike up.

    Welcome to the site!
As for the baffle, as soon as we removed ours, we re-jetted it immediatley. BIG power gain!

No. Not only do you need to rejet but you also need to open the air-box. You should complete the entire power-up mod before you run the bike. Air, carb, exhaust. An after market free flow air filter would be nice and don’t forget to readjust the air/fuel screw when you complete the mods.

Thanks for the info. I contacted my local dealer and he suggested to do nothing to my bike. He said if I wanted to get more power to buy a crf250. I want to do do the power up but I have never touched a motorcycle engine before. I just started riding after a ten year break. Even then I would ride my friends bike. What exactly do I need to power up my bike. I read the forums all over the web on how to do it. what do you recommend and what parts, tools do you need.
    thanks for your responses.

Dude, they always say that and have been saying that forever. They are wrong. They are steither a:Stupid
    or
    b: Ignorant.
Why do you think Honda sells a "Power-Up" kit made just for your bike ,anyway, ? To screw up their bikes ? Think.
When you are new to something, seek out people who know their stuff and listen. These people have righteous 230's and know their stuff.
You get the Power Up kit from your dealer, or even better, one with a clue. Tell the parts people you want the Power Up kit for a CRF23O.The one made by Honda. For your bike.
Do the airbox mod simultaneously or don't bother. This needs done right or not at all. IF jetting and airbox are done you can worry about the exhaust, if not there's no reason to touch the exhaust unless you want people to think you're riding a fast bike. STOCK you're not, it's a nice little..dog. Powroll has a really nice end cap you can find right here on the on-line store that sounds great and you keep a spark arrestor.
The last thing is replace your countershaft sprocket with a 14-15 tooth one, per Project CRF230 by Rick Seiman and BBR. BOTH know what they're doing.
What we've told you wil give you a great running bike with substantially better performance, substantially better. It'll also be stone dependable and won't be anything you have to me messing with all the time.
The Powroll end cap is here, the airbox mod is free, the jet kit from Honda, and tel your dealer JT makes the sprocket you need.
    Get hoppin' ! Doug

it fine tunes the fuel to air ratio.

While you have the carb off take the time to either stick something like a rubber hose over it so you can turn it. Or remove it then cut a slot in it so you can use a screw driver, or just replace the stupid thing with one that can be turned by hand.

Mind you don’t loose the spring, washer, o-ring.

Complete the mods, warm up the bike, set the idle a little high then turn the fuel/air screw for max rpm. I had to readjust the idle down during this process because the motor started to run too fast. Once you tune the screw the set your idle to normal.

Why in the world don't you have a manual with an 07 bud ? The dealer has to give you one if new, and if used the prior owner had already 'lost' it that should make you nervous.
Anyway, read this page by page, it'll tell you about everything you need to know about your 230 if you read it, including how to do your mods. Print it and you'll have a nice little guide book :

there is no aftermarket manuals for the 230.

except for some sketch looking one on ebay for $20..

you can search e-bay for used factory service manuals or just buy one new ($60)

this will give you diagrams and step-by-step information on performing any kind of maint. on your new bike.

    well worth the money.
plus the pictures and details are excellent.

I just ordered my power up kit from honda services. I am also looking to change the front sproket. Which one should I go with the 14t or the 15t. Also, is it necessary to change the chain and rear sproket. What do you recommend in handle bars?

We sure liked the 15. The stock chain and sprockets are fine. Doug
