    Did some drag racing!

    by crf100rider21 » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:11 am

    I was at my friends the other day and his brother started making fun of dirt bikes, so i asked if we wanted to race. We lined up and raced probably a little less than a quarter mile. I had him the whole way until i got into 6th gear. Then he started to come back up on me. If the track was any longer he would have beat me!

    How do i get my bike to pick up a little faster in 5th and 6th gear?

    What gearing you running? Front and back? are you looking for quicker acceleration or more top speed?

    I'm looking for better acceleration. I'm pretty sure it has the stock gearing on it. I have heard about non O-ring chains being better performance, is that true?

    On my 230 I put a non o-ring on it it takes away some drag.

    Keep the bike right on the powerband (wherever it make the most power) and keep it right there. Dont go down in revs even when shifting.

    I was shifting without the clutch, but when i hit 6th gear he started getting closer to me. I still beat him, but i want to beat him by more!

    It really doesn't. The first 100 yards you run it in the dirt even if it's spotless when you start the non-sealed chain has more drag than the sealed. With todays modern chains that's been relegated to Old Wives Tale status.
    A 14 or 15 tooth countershaft sprocket is the cheapest change you can make with a huge payoff, You give up nothing in acceleration because with stock gearing first took you to about 3mph. Your bike will accelerate faster because 2nd you can actually stay in and keep accelerating for three times as long.
    This wasn't my idea, it was BBR's and Project CRF230 by the lehgendary Rick Seiman. Doug

    Sounds like a great idea to me! Have to wait till the old ones wear out though.

    dude... at $15 + shipping. come on thats not right.

    Besides if you wait too long then you will need a new chain and rear sprocket, if you don’t already. Its best to change all three when one is so warn it needs replacing.

    then explain why my non o-ring weighs less than the p.o.s. i took off the bike?

    weight = drag
