    More Jetting Problems.

    by Vcandito » Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:30 am

I just rejetted my girlfriend 2003 230F. I pulled out a 102 main jet and put in a 132. I Also moved the needle up one click. When I test rode it the bike had good power until it reached high RPM's. It would then "Bog" out and want to die. Is it too rich, or should I try putting a new spark plug in it? We're going riding on friday and need to figure it out quick.

P.S- Not sure what the Pilot jet, I uncorked the exhaust, pulled the air box snorkel, and we are riding at about 500 ft.

    Thanks everybody.

Drop the main to a 120, bump the pilot to a 48, and put the needle clip on the 4th from the top.

So, you moved the clip on the needle DOWN one, right ?
    You should have if not.
Anyway Vcandito whats probably happening here is that you are hitting the rev limiter, it happens a lot on 230's, new owners write in that at high rpms, like when you're winding it out before shifting, the bike bogs/cuts out. the only way that's happening that's other than the rev limiter would be if you installed a main jet LEANER than stock....not in this case. You're hitting the rev limiter.
My buddies 230 he had before getting the 250X we did the Power up jets (45 pilot), snorkle removal,Powroll cam and BBR pipe just really ran super strong for a 230,and you even use the stock valve springs.
All really nice mods, but nothing made the bike a whole lot better for so little money than installing a 15 tooth counter shaft sprocket. DO this mod ! It's cheap, top speed is increased about 10 mph, first gear is no longer useless with second pretty sorry as it is now, NO climbing ability is lost, it's just a total winner of a mod.
Project CRF230 at www.off-road.com by Rick Seiman is where we got the scoop on the CS sprocket, it's really very, very effective. It's even easier for the new rider to learn on, you won't be sorry.

I assume the air cleaner is spotless.
I run at a similar elevation to yourself and it does get fluffy at high revs when you have had a dusty day.

I probably should run a 128 main in summer and only run the 132 in winter, but I have to ride when it is cooler now anyway so I don't change it out.

The 120 main like AS suggested will work provided you change the clip position.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

the 120 works well with the stock needle, the 132 works well with the "power up" needle.
