    Custom Handlebars...

    by Malindor » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:42 am

Sometimes I think I am dumb and do not understand a thing about bikes; and guess what I have another topic that confuses me...

What are the three measurements used to describe the bend in a bar actually mean. And more particular, what is the difference between a CR High and CR Low bend?

Okay, I have been looking at almost every online store and catalog drooling over a set of custom bars and will make this a winter update project.

But I do have another question. A lot of these site sell what they call safety wire. Is this looped around the the handle bar ends before you use the grip glue and slide the grips over all of it; similar to the way you would wad up athletic tape on the end of a hockey stick to provide a better grip? Or what is its exact purpose?

    nononono

you get some grip glue, put it on, slide the grips on, THEN safety wire over the grips and make it flush with the grips so u dont poke yourself.

i personally dont do it cause i put alot of glue on, (Renthal if i remember right)

that stuff will knock you on your rear though so do it in a well ventilated area.

here u can see the small bits of wire on the ends, hope u understand now.

most people put about 3 or 4 different, seperate loops on.
