    Bog Down at full throtle after Uni Filter installation

    by jtcohenour » Sun Jul 29, 2007 7:49 am

    Yesterday I installed a new Uni filter. Previous to that I was running the stock filter. After installation I started the bike and let it warm up. On my bike stand when I pull the throttle back rapidly from idle the bike bogs down and dies. I have the power-up kit installed with the clip in the middle. The main jet is a #132. The exhaust is stock with the baffle removed. The snorkel is also removed. I ride around 2000ft in Tucson, AZ. My bike does not have a fuel mix screw installed.

    Any suggestions?

    Perfectly normal, these carbs do not have an accelerator pump. When you "wick" the throttle you get a lot of air and little fuel. Did you ride it, how did it act?

    K D is right… you can’t, and should not “wick” the throttle. But adjusting you fuel/air screw is necessary if you want your bike running at its best. The “D” head tool is a joke at $100 so I suggest you either replace your stock screw or cut a notch in it so a regular screwdriver will turn it.

    I am going to buy aftermarket exhaust, hopefully over the next several weeks. I really like the look of th Dr. D setup. I will try doing some adjusting when i put on the new exhaust, I could fool with everything now but would have to do it again. As for how the bike is running I went riding with my son yesterday and the bike ran well when the clutch was not pulled in. There is a noticable difference in bottom end with the uni filter. The bike seemed more aggressive. My bike does not have fuel mix screw at all.

    If you've removed the baffle from the stock exhaust, you won't get much more from an after market pipe.

    Proper fuel screw adjustment is critical (not the idle screw).

    CRFSONLY sells a very nice no tools needed, replacement fuel screw.

    Installing it and properly adjusting the idle mixture will greatly improve throttle response.

    I just purchased a fuel screw from the web site. I there anything I need to know about installing it. I would assume you need to completely pull the carb off.

    Yes it does. =; It is on the bottom of the carb, tward the front, in a well. It is brass and has a head in the shape of a “D”. ;)

    You do not need to pull the carb. Just loosen the boot clamps and twist it.
    You will need the spring, washer and o-ring from the old screw. If you screw is truly missing then you will need an OEM replacement because the spring and washer are not sold separately, the o-ring is.

    Bovinescatology. =;
    Removing the baffle will allow the motor to exhale more air. This does not help the engine unless you help it inhale more air, pull the snorkel. Such changes to your motor will require more fuel to go with the extra air, Honda power-up kit.
