    CRF230F suspension question Noob

    by jonnyslick » Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:50 pm

So I'm new to dirtbikes ... but I'm looking at a 2005 CRF230F my neighbor has for sale. I'm 29, 5'7" and weigh in at 170 lbs. Would this be a good bike for me? Or is it too small? Also I have hear the suspenision on the 230F sucks ... is this true? Anyway to fix it?

    Thanks for the help!

First of welcome to the site. Yes the 230 will fit you perfectly. Yes the suspension sucks. And yes it can be fixed. Depending on your style and the type of ridding you will be doing. Some change springs; some change the forks and shock.
I trail ride, damn near got killed coming off a 6’ jump wrong. So I ditched the 37mm forks for a used set of 43mm. Changed foot pegs and got the best boots available.
The incident happened on my first ride with a cheep set of boots. I found out later that they were sliding on the pegs. I blame the crash on that trio of crap; boots, pegs and forks they all sucked (and yes a bit of pour judgment on my part. However I could have saved it if the forks did not SUCK :!: :!: :!: ).

Have a look at the garage feature in this forum you can see who has done what to their bike. 8)
