    Changing a clutch lever

    by CRF230RiPPER » Tue Jul 17, 2007 10:08 pm

I've never actually done a lever change on my 230 or any other bike for that matter, and since my clutch lever is now C shaped I figure its about time to replace it. I know you have to keep tension on the cable i suppose ,but i was wondering if someone might be able to kind of guide me thru it. Anyone care to post some basic direction on how i might get this done by myself? any help would be much appreciated.

Assume you are only replacing lever and you haven't broken the perch.

Slacken adjustment nuts both end of cable to give you some slack.

Undo the nut under the lever, then the bolt from top.

Line up slot in barrel and adjustment nut at lever end.

You should be able to pivot old lever out and disengage from end of cable.

Lube cable whilst lever is off.

Reverse what you just did to take it off.
Ensure there is free travel at lever.
You can double check at clutch end.

You know I been thinking about getting some ASV levers...but they are expensive, I got my new lever put on OK , but in the meantime I seemed to have threaded the perch bolt wrong, now i can't adjust the perch correctly asnd can't get the bolt out...gonna have to easy out it or something....I gotta change these perches at least.....I dunno...anyone have any suggestions???
