Uncork but leave baffle in?

Has anyone uncorked the CRF230 by removing the snorkel and airbox restrictors, rejetted the carbs but left the baffle in the exhaust? If so what were your results with the power improvement?

Negative. Don’t do it.
You will mess up the bike over time. The 230 is made tame so it won’t be as noticeable at first as a 450R or the like. It’s all about physics. The more you put in the more you must take out. The bike is not breathing right. If you want performance at a lower noise level then you need a pipe made for that purpose. Pro Circuit makes one. Its about $430. Ask Ken.

:?: does it hurt to take the baffle out of the muffler it felt like to me it gave it a shot of power just by pulling the baffle out

Yes it helps a little bit, but it’s bad for the motor. The power up mod works great, but you need to do the entire mod. Pull the baffle and the snorkel then install the power up needle and jet.

I have heard some say there is no difference in the needles, I have eyes and they work well enough to see that is not true. The power up needle I installed had a different taper at the end it is Honda part#16012-KPS-921, the stock part#16012-KPS-731.
The kit is about $40.

On a 150F, I did this:

re-jetted with larger main and pilot
changed needle setting to 4th position down
installed hi flo Twin Air filter
removed snorkel
Drilled out baffle (put a few quarter inch holes in end)

Ok, right after I started it up I found it was WAY TOO LOUD. It was stupid loud. I immediately got out my torch and filled in the holes that I made in the baffle with brass rod.

The bike shows marked improvement in acceleration, but low end is a tad laggy. Acceleration is smooth but not as quick as a race bike.

That said, we only use this bike around neighbors and I think quiet keeps the peace. The bike is still fun as hell.

I did not buy a rev box for it because it does not improve acceleration.
